About
The
King’s Village is an International Development Project
in Northern Ghana. A Christian-based project, the King's
Village aims to tackle root causes of poverty and to empower
local people to reach their full potential.
Based
in the Tolon-Kumbungu District, the King's Village serves
one of the poorest areas of the country. Among the 150,000
residents in the area the project serves, there is only
1 doctor, provided by the King's Village in 2006. Less than
40% of children in the district attend school and only 1
in 20 adults can read or write. Most people survive on less
than 50 pence a day.
The King's Village adopts an integrated development approach,
seeking to simultaneously address multiple root causes of
disadvantage - namely lack of clean water, healthcare, education
and training. Since its inception in 2000, the project has
already made a real and lasting difference to thousands
of lives.
The
project is overseen by 58i in Nottingham, working closely
with a Ghanaian board of directors which includes doctors,
teachers and community leaders. |
