Healthcare

Until 2006, among the 150,000 people who live near to the King’s Village, there was not a single doctor. The current infant mortality rate is 140 for every 1000 live births and there is less than one nurse for every 6,000 people.

However following an in depth needs assessment and wide community consultation, the King's Village opened a medical centre in April 2006. Providing a doctor, nurse and pharmacist, the new medical centre is seeing on average over 80 patients per day.

Community Health Workers and Traditional Birth Attendants are also receiving support and training from the centre. A planned second phase of the building work will see the development of a maternity wing and inpatient care.
