Clean
Water
The
King’s Village serves an area of 150,000 population,
of whom only 14% have access to safe, clean water supplies.
As a result, diseases like diarrhoea, dystentry, guinea
worm and trachoma are highly prevalent in the district.
Lack
of clean water and poor sanitation leads to sickness, reduced
ability to work, low agricultural productivity and poor
nutrition - trapping individuals into a vicious cycle of
poverty and disease. Provision of clean water and sanitary
systems is therefore vital to reducing poverty, building
capacity and enabling people to reach their full potential.
Together
with partner organisations the British Army and World Vision,
the King's Village has so far been able to provide clean
water sources, sanitary systems and hygiene education to
over 20 communities, or around 6000 people.
Over
time we want to make sure that every one of the 237 communities
in the district has a source of safe, clean water and the
sanitary and hygiene facilities necessary to prevent the
spread of disease.
